Budget Guard converts the worklogs already recorded in Jira into project cost, billable value, gross margin and budget-usage indicators. It does not add a second timesheet.
Requirements
- Jira Cloud with worklogs enabled.
- A Jira administrator to configure and view financial information.
- Budget, hourly cost rate, hourly billing rate and ISO currency code for each project.
Configure a project
- Open the Jira project and select Budget Guard from the project navigation.
- Enter the cost budget, default cost rate, default billing rate and three-letter currency code.
- Select Save settings. The app records an audit entry for the configuration change.
- Select Reconcile 90 days for the initial worklog import. Worklog create, update and delete events keep the ledger current afterwards.
Understand the dashboard
- Budget consumed: worklog cost divided by the configured cost budget.
- Logged: total hours and unique worklogs in the reconciled ledger.
- Billable value: logged time multiplied by the applicable billing rate.
- Gross margin: billable value minus worklog cost, before overhead.
Export and delete data
Export CSV downloads worklog-level calculation inputs and totals from the same ledger used by the dashboard. In the data-deletion section, a Jira administrator can permanently delete the project configuration, ledger, synchronization state and audit records after confirming the action.
Troubleshooting
If totals appear stale, run the 90-day reconciliation and refresh after it completes. If access is rejected, confirm the account has Jira administrator permission. For unresolved problems, email support@hourmargin.com.
